Dr. Gerard Manecke serves as Clinical Professor and Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine. Having grown up on Long Island in New York, Dr. Manecke received his undergraduate degrees in Biology and Music and his Doctorate in Medicine at Stony Brook  University. He then performed an Anesthesiology residency at Stony Brook, serving as Chief Resident and performing a Cardiothoracic Anesthesia fellowship there as well. 

Following his training, Dr. Manecke served on the faculty at Stony Brook University as Anesthesiology Clinical Director and as a member of the Cardiothoracic Anesthesia Team. During that time he developed his educating skills, winning multiple awards for teaching, and established research in hemodynamic monitoring, signal acquisition, and waveform analysis.

In 2000 he joined the UCSD Anesthesiology Department as a member of the Cardiothoracic Anesthesia Team, and served as Chief of that division from 2002 until 2006.  In 2006 he assumed the responsibilities of Chair of the Department, although he continues to teach actively and conduct research in clinical cardiovascular physiology. Dr. Manecke continues to be active clinically, and is a busy lecturer for international meetings, and both private and university-based practices.  

Dr. Manecke is a consultant for Edwards Lifesciences, LLC, and performs research on the performance of the Vigileo/FloTrac system.
